How to ‘Freecycle’

A step-by-step guide!

1. Sign up to Freecycle! Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Newark-FreeCycle/ to join up to the Newark group or http://uk.freecycle.org/  to find an alternative group (If you don’t have a yahoo ID already, you’ll need to create one as part of the signing-up process)

2. The ‘moderator’ will be alerted when you try to sign up and once you receive a welcome email in reply, you’re ready to Freecycle!

3. Sign up to receive ALL emails, or visit the website as and when you want to offer or find something on offer! (You can amend this later).

4. Find something to OFFER and post it as in ‘rules’ below. 

RULES On joining you must ‘offer’ before ‘taking’ anything. Nothing ‘naughty’! (No elaboration required!) Always entitle your post either OFFERED, WANTED, TAKEN or RECEIVED, followed by the item details and the LOCATION. E.g. OFFERED washing machine in SOUTHWELL The person offering the item(s) chooses who to    offer them to Remember your manners at all times—please and thank you should not be forgotten just because you’re saving something from landfill!

5. When sufficient replies have come in to decide who to ‘gift’ your item to, email that person to arrange collection from your home.

6. When the item has been taken, post a ‘TAKEN’ notice. 

7. You can now start to take unwanted items off other peoples’ hands...and continue to get rid of your own unwanted goods.

8. Keep up the good work. NEVER throw anything away that might be of use to somebody else.

9. Stop buying things new that don’t need to be new if they are being offered on Freecycle (or try posting a ‘wanted’ item first!

10. Spread the word. Let all your friends know about Freecycle!
