What do you Drive?

T’ain’t what you drive it’s the way that you drive it!

clipartcartooncoinWe’re all well aware of the recent rises in fuel prices and the ’doom and gloom’ tales that this is just the beginning. Whether you blame our taxation system or ’peak oil’ the fact remains that changing your driving habits is helping your finances as well as the earth! (if you don’t know what ’peak oil’ is, just come to me for a lecture and I’ll happily explain the concept!)

So, here are some ideas you might like to try out;

1. Give your car a break! Try the bus. Try walking or taking your bike, donkey or whatever! Just leave your car at home. Your health will be better for it too! For the most ‘guilty’ amongst us, those with the biggest cars, here’s some great logic—the bigger your car the more carbon dioxide emissions you are saving. So, you can be doing more than the smug SMART drivers!

2. Keep your tyres pumped up. Don’t waste energy accelerating when there’s a bend ahead, then braking away all that built up speed. Reduce your speed where it is safe to do so; above 50mph every 10% faster you go, you use 10-20% more fuel to go the same distance.

3. Upgrade your car to a smaller model. Blessed are the small in car! Impress your neighbours by swimming against the tide and tell them why; that you believe it's God's earth, our children's future and you've decided to trash it as gently as you can.
